New year is the time to celebrate

                               &  weave new dreams,

to realise how great was the last year

                              &  cherish the memories,

to wish and pray for a prosperous year ahead

                              & realise new dreams.

i am really impressed by the way u have proceeded with this novel venture....i am an apatani and sometimes i feel bad that i can't speak the tanii language. wish i can speak it fluently someday. it becomes a problem when i go to ziro once in a while. the language teaching u posted was really helpful. keep up the good job.

Thanks anonymous, this is certainly the best compliment we can receive from readers, if u say it helped u not to forget ur mother tongue. Keep on visiting, even though posts are less regular these days.

dear anonymous,im an apatani.im very much impressed and the effort made by you toward this is truly commendable.but,to be frankly, some of the meaning of the word(in english)that you have assign for the apatani word,I found, is mistake. such as- Tado Tasang means(as per you...)yellow beads. But I feel yellow bead should not the perfect meaning for the same word. And so much so,the first example- "Mo ngimi, ngika lemba hokii tolyiku ho gari pa bagiiku" doesnt make any sense literally. as per you have interpreted for the same word in english, it should goes something like this..." Mo ngiimi, ngiika lemba hokii tolyikula gari pa bagiiku". some more text are there which needed to be rectified... rest of the work is just mindboggling. well done and good luck....!

Thanks for your kind words. I checked this sentence "Mo ngiimi, ngiika lemba hokii tolyiku ho gari pa bagiiku" with Apatani friends and could find no error in it. Regarding "tado tasan", it's a bit more complicated.

1. tado tasan is the name of a common necklace for ladies made of yellow beads (see the post 'Tanii beads 8' in this blog, under the Arts & artifacts section)

2. tado alone is the word for "yellow (color)" as used in Hija, whereas pilan is used in place of tado elsewhere (see the post "basic colors in Tanii" under Language section, and comments)

3. tasan, depending on the context, can mean bead or necklace. For example lebu tasan, santer tasan, sampyu tasan or sampo tasan all refer to necklace types. But, at the same time, tasan has been translated as "bead" only in Habung Donyi's Apatani dictionary (which has been released a couple of months back).

Hence my translation as "yellow bead or necklace". What I mean by this here is, depending on the context it can refer to either a particular necklace or a yellow type of bead. Please correct me if I am wrong.
